    New Releases - 20 January 2017

    FOXYGEN - Hang - Jagjaguwar
Foxygen is the Big Bang of two combusting minds. It's the splayed Galaxy of polar geniuses Sam France and Jonathan Rado. It's a handshake with a knife behind your back. A sleepless night in a five star hotel. You listen to Hang properly. You take in each moment. Each new melody that threads forward from the fingertips of one of this generation's finest piano men in Jonathan Rado. And you fall in line behind Sam France's sprawling and reckless lyric. Witness his mastery. Feel them struggle against the walls of their own creations. Follow them there. To the perimeter. To the exit sign. Notice that the two young guys aren't there anymore. They're outside looking for another joint to haunt. They're already out of sight.

    TYCHO - Epoch - Ghostly Int'l
Epoch is the latest album from Scott Hansen's continually expanding project Tycho. The album is at once a departure and an evolution for Tycho; honing the sonic aesthetic of Dive while drawing on the kinetic energy of Awake, it explores darker themes and new musical territory.

AFI - AFI: The Blood Album - Concord Records
AFI's new self-titled album was produced by the band's guitarist, Jade Puget, and co-produced by Matt Hyde (Deftones) and is the follow-up to 2013's Burials, which hit Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Since the release of 1995's debut album Answer That and Stay Fashionable, AFI has written and recorded five top ten hit singles ('Miss Murder,' 'Medicate,' 'Love Like Winter,' 'Silver and Gold,' 'Girl's Not Grey'), hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (with the stunning Decemberunderground), garnered worldwide critical acclaim and amassed a fiercely loyal global following whose members number in the millions.

    2017 Grammy Nominees - Atlantic
The latest installment of the best-selling series - now in its 23rd year - features a collection of the biggest and brightest GRAMMY-nominated music for the upcoming 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards®. A portion of album proceeds benefit the year-round work of the GRAMMY Museum FoundationTM and MusiCares Foundation® - The Recording Academy's charitable organizations focused on music education programs and critical assistance for music people in need.

JAPANDROIDS - Near To The Wild Heart Of Life

JAPANDROIDS - Near To The Wild Heart Of LifeJAPANDROIDS - Near To The Wild Heart Of Life - AntiJAPANDROIDS - Near To The Wild Heart Of Life
JAPANDROIDS is a two-piece band from Vancouver, BC., which began in 2006 and consists of Brian King and David Prowse. JAPANDROIDS are one guitar, one set of drums, and two vocalizers. JAPANDROIDS are maximal in their delivery; a two- piece band sounding like a five-piece band. With the release of their second album, Celebration Rock in 2012 the band embarked on what seemed like an endless world tour, performing over 200 shows in over 40 countries, and played their final show in support of Celebration Rock in Buenos Aires, Argentina in November 2013. They would not perform live again for three years. Their third album, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, was written clandestinely throughout 2014 and 2015 in Vancouver, Toronto, New Orleans, and Mexico City. It was (mostly) recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (Fall of 2015), with one song, “True Love And A Free Life Of Free Will”, recorded at Golden Ratio in Montreal, QC (February, 2015). The title, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, comes from a passage in the novel A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man by James Joyce: “He was alone. He was unheeded, happy, and near to the wild heart of life.” Like their prior albums Post-Nothing and Celebration Rock, the album is 8 songs. This is because 8 songs is the standard template for a great rock n roll album. Like Post-Nothing and Celebration Rock, the album was sequenced specifically for the LP. On Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, side A (songs 1-4) and side B (songs 5-7) each follow their own loose narrative. Taken together as one, they form an even looser narrative, with the final song on side B (song 8) acting as an epilogue. If Celebration Rock was the culmination of something, then Near To The Wild Heart Of Life can be considered the beginning of something else.

BRANTLEY GILBERT - The Devil Don't Sleep

BRANTLEY GILBERT - The Devil Don't SleepBRANTLEY GILBERT - The Devil Don't Sleep - ValoryBRANTLEY GILBERT - The Devil Don't Sleep
A lot has happened, marvels the man nominated for CMA Song of the Year for Jason Aldean's signature Dirt Road Anthem. And anyone who knows me knows that every album is another chapter of my life. Even though it's my life, even though some of what I write about is very specific to what happens to me, I think the challenges, the places where we figure things out are all the same no matter what we're facing, realizations all mean the same things. By now, everyone knows the story turned out okay for me, laughs the man who sold out his entire BLACKOUT arena tour last winter, as well as his TAKE IT OUTSIDE amphitheater tour which closed with two nights at Red Rocks. But the truth is there's always temptation, there's always something whether it's work or substances or gambling or whatever that can pull you off the path. For me, thankfully, I got through it, got the girl back, got to keep my career moving... Life isn't just chapters, explains the songwriter/rocker. What happens before influences what happens next. Not always the way you'd expect. Sometimes you don't even see it til later. But with these CDs, I feel like it's the story and then more of the story. You know, depending on how deep you want to go, it's a way to understand the journey to The Devil Don't Sleep.  The new album is also available in a Deluxe 2CD Edition.
