This Month: Saturday, September 5th!

After taking a month off, Vinyl Saturday is back with a new group of cool records. As always these pieces are very limited and there are no guarantees, no pre-orders, and we reserve the right to limited the number purchased. Online orders will not be filled until the following Monday. Because of the limited presssings we cannot guarantee being able to fill every order. The best way to make sure to get these goodies is to show up Saturday morning when we open at 9 a.m.


BIG STAR: "Feel" (alternate mix) b/w "Mod Lang" (alternate mix) 7"
The A-side is a selection from the forthcoming Keep An Eye On The Sky box set (coming 9/15). Best known as the opening track of Big Star's #1 Record, this previously unissued early mix of the song has additional guitar and some different lyrics not heard in the final mix you've known for all these years. It also lacks the brass overdubs and some other production touches, but is a far more rough and ready presentation of this Chris Bell classic.

After the release of Big Star's Radio City album in 1974, a well-known British producer (who shall remain nameless) from the 1960's approached Ardent about remixing "Mod Lang" for single release. The original tapes were flown to New York City's famed Record Plant and augmented with piano and additional percussion (did I hear you say "more cowbell?"). Although the band passed on hte results, we thought you might like to hear this "B-side" rarity which has been sitting in the can since 1974! This track is exclusive to this vinyl release.

AVETT BROTHERS: "Slight Figure of Speech" b/w "More of You" 7"
This is the lead-off single for the upcoming Rick Rubin-produced Avett Brothers record, Love and You, due out on vinyl Sept. 15th and on CD Sept. 29th. Although the A-side will be on the album, the B-side is exclusive to this single.

MARS VOLTA: Octahedron LP
That's right, the full-length vinyl version of the new record, with pretty bells-and-whistles packaging designed by the band.

RX BANDITS: Mandala LP
This band loves indie stores just as much as you do. That's why, short of getting it off an actual band member, you'll only be able to get the full-length vinyl version of their new record at an indie record store.

This is a new Beastie Boys single from their forthcoming album, featuring Nas. The 12" coming in a plain, white DJ sleeve. The b-side has an instrumental and an a cappella mix. This record, exclusive to indie stores, is only $5.99.

MODEST MOUSE: "Perpetual Motion Machine" 7" b/w "History Sticks to Your Feet"
This is the third in a series of four new Modest Mouse singles to be release in advance of their new album. This record is numbered and exclusive to indie stores.
